About Blue Cow Ice Cream

Our story started with a love of our community and a desire for a fun, creative outlet.

Blue Cow Ice Cream Co. was founded in Roanoke, Virginia, by husband and wife team, Jason and Carolyn Kiser. After moving to Roanoke in 2008, we saw the area gradually transition from a mountain town with railroad heritage into a cool, research-oriented outdoors town with a unique culinary scene. We longed to contribute creatively to our community’s rebirth.

With busy careers and young children, our creative desires were suppressed until 2016 when we saw an opportunity we just couldn’t shake. The next thing we knew, Jason was enrolled in an ice cream technology short course at the University of Guelph in Ontario, subsequently attending an ice cream makers program at Penn State University and our home kitchen had been turned into a test kitchen for mixing and refining various ice cream flavors.

The mission of Blue Cow Ice Cream Co. is simple – to serve up smiles, one hand-crafted scoop at a time. We believe milk and cream can be a blank canvas to develop new and creative flavors, drawing inspiration from food trends, places we travel, or even day to day life.

We proudly spin our flavors fresh daily from our production kitchen in Virginia’s Blue Ridge, using simple, quality ingredients sourced locally when possible. Ultimately, we want Blue Cow Ice Cream Co. to have a lasting and positive impact on each community we are fortunate to be part of.
